Originally from Gaerwen in Anglesey, Rhiannon Ifans has lived for many years in Penrhyn Coch in the Aberystwyth area. She specializes in medieval literature and folk studies. In 1980 she published a modernised version of the tales of the Mabinogion with her husband (Gomer). She won the Tir na n-Og award in 2000 for her book Chwedlau o’r Gwledydd Celtaidd and for the second time in 2003 for her book Dewi Sant: Owain Glyndŵr: Tywysog Cymru was shortlisted for the Tir na n-Og Award in 2001. In 2019 she won the Prose Medal at the Conwy County Eisteddfod for her novel Ingrid, set in the German city of Stuttgart and telling the story of a fascinating woman who is slowly losing her mind.
