Kate McAll is a Sony Gold award-winning producer and director with nearly thirty years experience of programme making, mainly for BBC Radio 4. Now freelance, she began her BBC career in Bristol, producing history documentaries and literary features, then branching out into drama. In 2005 she moved to Wales to head the Radio Drama department at BBC Wales, and collaborated with her Doctor Who colleagues to make three Torchwood Radio Dramas with the original cast. Her dramatised series The Diary of Samuel Pepys, with Kris Marshall, ran for three years on BBC Radio 4, and proved to be one of the most popular programmes on the network.
Writing Radio Drama
Radio drama is more popular than ever. During this course, you will learn how to capture the imagination of your audience; create living, breathing characters; invent authentic dialogue, and use sound in intriguing ways to tell your story. This is an opportunity to write a short radio drama from start to finish, in a supportive environment, with help and advice from two current industry professionals. Paul Dodgson is a writer, musician, radio producer and teacher with a lifelong love of radio drama. As a producer, he made hundreds of programmes for all the BBC national radio networks, has written 16 plays for BBC Radio 4 as well as Eastenders and drama and documentary series for BBC television. For theatre, Paul has written several plays for young people and been commissioned to write music and lyrics for five musicals including The Nutcracker at Theatre Royal Bath and Nuffield Southampton. Paul has taught creative writing around the world, has been writer-in-residence at Exeter University and a Hawthornden Fellow. Paul’s latest venture, On The Road Not Taken, is a music, memoir and performance project that has been a play on Radio 4 and will end up in book form, published by Unbound.
