Mindfulness refers to being wholeheartedly present to the everyday moments in our life. Living a full life is a creative act in itself, and creative thinking has the power to help you open doors and take advantage of all your opportunities.

 

This experiential course will offer an opportunity to practice mindfulness and a range of therapeutic writing approaches through the interactive use of poetry, prose and guided meditation. The writing practices will provide opportunities for the exploration of personal themes and ideas, with the chance to discuss these within the group as well as with the tutors. We’ll explore ways of integrating mindfulness and writing into everyday life, in a supportive, non-judgmental and inspiring environment, with a view to promoting personal creativity, self-compassion and wellbeing.

 

The course is suitable for those who are new to mindfulness as well as those who are more experienced.

 

The fees for this course are reduced thanks to a Gwynedd Council grant towards Tŷ Newydd’s Writing for Health and Wellbeing project.

Tutors

Jill Teague

Jill Teague is a poet, writer and certified poetry therapist. She’s Assistant Director of The International Academy for Poetry Therapy, New York, and works both in the UK and the USA teaching, mentoring and training poetry therapy practitioners. She has received numerous awards and scholarships for pioneering work in the field of poetry therapy. She is a visiting facilitator on the Mindfulness Course at the oncology department of Ysbyty Gwynedd and recently edited Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Cancer by Trish Bartley. Based in Snowdonia, North Wales, she is founder of Out of the Blue Writing, where she runs courses for groups and individuals based on the principles of Poetry Therapy.

Mariel Jones

Mariel Jones is a member of core training team at the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice at Bangor University, and is a member of the teaching team with the Mindfulness Network CIC. Mariel has delivered Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy courses for clinical populations, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction in non-clinical settings as well as an adapted version for parents of children with enduring disabilities. For eight years Mariel also worked as a student counsellor at a further education college and completed her Master’s dissertation on staff attitudes to student self-harm. She is currently teaching mindfulness courses in various workplace settings.
