Celebrating Independent Bookshop Week
Mon 6 June 2016 / , / Written by Miriam Williams

On 18 June  individuals and groups throughout the country will celebrate the independent bookshop week. As part of the celebrations, Carol Ann Duffy, Gillian Clarke, Jackie Kay, Imitaz Dharker and the musician John Sampson will take part in a 14 day tour of Britain in partnership with independent bookshops.

Amongst a number of locations, Shore to Shore will visit Galeri Caernarfon on Sunday 26 June  and will welcome Ifor ap Glyn as a special guest. The event is held in partnership with the Palas Print bookshop, and the audience will enjoy readings and poetry from the new National Poet of Wales as well as Carol Ann Duffy and friends.

To celebrate the tour, Picador publishers have launched a poetry competition at each of the 14 locations. All you have to do is write a poem about a community and send it to shoretoshore@macmillan.com by 26 June . Entries may be submitted in Welsh or English and will be judged by local poets.

The winners will be announced on the Carol Ann Duffy and Friends website as well as Picador’s poetry newsletter. Winners will receive a collection of poetry books from the publisher.

If you would like to attend the Shore to Shore event, tickets can be purchased through Galeri.

Good luck with your poems!
